Torrance Based Tiger Squadron to Flyover Torrance Blvd. as a Tribute to the United States Armed Forces

5/14/2020

TORRANCE, Calif., May 14, 2020- On Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m.; what would have been the Torrance’s Annual Armed Forces Day Parade, the Tiger Squadron, a precision formation flying and aircraft display team based out of Torrance Airport, will flyover Torrance Blvd. as a tribute to the United States Armed Forces. They will also pass over Torrance hospitals to thank the City’s medical first responders.
The Tiger Squadron will begin at Western Ave. and Torrance Blvd. at 1 p.m., flying west above Torrance Blvd. then looping east at Torrance Beach, and turning north with a pass over Torrance Memorial Hospital, before turning to Zamperini Field. Mayor Patrick J. Furey presented an Armed Forces Day proclamation at the most recent City Council meeting. The City will continue to keep the spirit of the Armed Forces Day tradition alive through socially distant safe ways of showing their appreciation. This includes tributes on social media, CitiCABLE, and the Hometown Heroes Banner program which can be seen throughout the City. Learn more at www.TorranceCA.Gov/AFD.
The Tiger Squadron has been a longtime participant in Torrance’s Armed Forces Day and Celebration which was cancelled this year due to uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team is made up of military pilots, instructors, airline pilots, and experienced civilian pilots with thousands of hours of combined experience, an unblemished safety record, and all required formation credentials. The City thanks them for their contribution in honoring the men and women of the United States Military.
